Hello Room 14 families,
Happy Friday! Here's a quick look at our reading week — what the class worked on, where we're headed next week, and one simple way you can help at home. As always, ten relaxed minutes makes a real difference.
Our focus stayed on fluency — reading smoothly, at a comfortable pace, and with expression. The children practiced in a few ways:
We'll build on smooth reading by letting punctuation be our guide — pausing at periods, lifting our voices for questions, and adding a little energy at exclamation points. We'll also begin a new class read-aloud and add a fresh set of sight words to our word wall.
If you do just one thing this week, try echo reading for about ten minutes on a few evenings. You read one sentence aloud with nice expression, then your child reads the same sentence back, matching your pace and tone. Keep it light and playful — celebrate the smooth tries and don't worry about perfection.
Re-reading an old favorite counts too. The goal is relaxed, enjoyable practice — not extra homework.
Thank you, as always, for reading alongside your children at home. It truly shows in the classroom, and I'm happy to chat anytime.
Warmly,
Ms. Bennett
